The Walker Group Picks

# 1A U NEEDA RITA 4/1

# 3 SARAH'S COW GIRL 8/5

# 6 CARSON'S CROSSING 3/1

U NEEDA RITA is my choice. This field is much less demanding than the last one she ran against. SARAH'S COW GIRL - Should land on the board without a hitch. Looks very good against this field and should be one of the early speedsters. CARSON'S CROSSING - She looks very good in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point.

Sam Houston - Race #3 - Post: 7:52pm

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

Choice Plays:

#7 HOT ROLLER (ML=3/1)

HOT ROLLER - Taking a trip down the class ladder; has the class ability to make his presence felt. I have to like this gelding's chances at the shorter trip. Trainer, Pish, has been deliberate with this gelding off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Just look at his last speed figure, 52. That one looks good in this group.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 PRAISING THY NAME (ML=4/1), #8 INDIGO PAGANO (ML=5/1), #3 DOCTOR KNOX (ML=5/1)

PRAISING THY NAME - Today's race is 5 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance race in the last couple months. Not the best of signals. This pony ran a mediocre speed figure in the last race. He shouldn't run much better and will likely get beat in today's race running that fig. INDIGO PAGANO - This thoroughbred just hasn't looked fit of late. Not probable that the speed figure he garnered on Mar 18th will hold up in this affair. DOCTOR KNOX - Didn't end up on the board on Mar 8th at Sam Houston. Followed it up with another less than stellar effort. The Brain cautions me to stay away from thoroughbreds in sprint affairs that haven't finished in the money in short distance contests lately. Notched a mediocre speed fig last out in a Maiden Special race on Mar 15th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that fig.

The Walker Group Picks

# 4 STRIGHTUP TWELVE 7/5

# 7 SCOOTER ROO 9/2

# 3 LEAVE IT TO CLEVE 4/1

I like STRIGHTUP TWELVE here. A solid 85 avg Equibase class figure may give this gelding a distinct class edge against this field. Has run solidly when running a dirt sprint race. Recent figures for the jock - 24 win percent - make this gelding stand out in this group of animals. SCOOTER ROO - Has very strong Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. Solid average speed figures in dirt sprint races make this pony a solid choice. LEAVE IT TO CLEVE - Will probably go to the lead and should never look back. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Hooper running at this distance are the best in this group of horses in this race.

Handicapped by Rick Needham at Santa Anita Park

RACE #6 - SANTA ANITA PARK - 3:36 PM PACIFIC POST

6½ FURLONGS DOWNHILL CHUTED TURF COURSE FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD ALLOWANCE $50,000.00 PURSE

#2 BUCK TUDDY BUCK
#1 WORLD ASUNDER
#3 RED STATE
#5 BALLISTIC HEAT

#2 BUCK TUDDY BUCK takes a class drop (-2) this afternoon, is the speed leader in this field sprinting at, or about, today's distance of 6½ furlongs on the turf, and has been a "POWER RUN PERFORMER" in five straight, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in his last start. #1 WORLD ASUNDER is the pace profile leader, and has hit the board in four of his last five starts, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in his last outing. Jockey Garret gomez was in his irons for that win, and returns today for another ride, gunning for back-to-back "Circle Trips."

Turfway Park - Race #7 - Post: 8:06pm

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

Choice Plays:

#8 BRIDESMAN (ML=6/1)
#6 MR. PUNKINDO (ML=3/1)
#4 GOLD SNEAKER (ML=4/1)
#5 INTRINSIC DANIELLE (ML=5/1)

BRIDESMAN - After the event aboard this animal on Mar 17th, the jockey is going to be in touch with the gelding much better. The race may set up nicely for this mount's late kick and he's probably the best late runner in the field. Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. This one could be an overlay in this race at morning odds of 6/1. Finished sixth in last race at Turfway Park but was close at the wire. MR. PUNKINDO - A pony coming back this soon after a strong race is a good sign. The jockey/trainer tandem of Martinez and Moore has a strong return on investment together. You have to like that last race speed rating, 93, which is the highest last race figure of this field. GOLD SNEAKER - I usually like playing sprinters who are 3-4 races into a come back. I just may give this one a good shot. Should improve off last race where he did run out of the money, but was within 5 lengths at the finish. INTRINSIC DANIELLE - Tammaro drops him down to this class. You don't need too much more handicapping information to figure that this horse has a darn good chance at this level.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 HONOURABLE NATURE (ML=5/1), #2 WIN AGAIN (ML=5/1), #9 STEP TO THE MUSIC (ML=8/1)

HONOURABLE NATURE - Generally I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance affairs in order to wager on him. Not likely that the speed figure he registered on March 21st will be good enough in this race. WIN AGAIN - Will be tough for this animal to beat this group off of that last speed fig. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put him on the likely underlays list. STEP TO THE MUSIC - This group is a whole lot tougher than the ones he met in the last race. Finished first in his most recent race with a common fig. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this bunch.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - INTRINSIC DANIELLE - Although he ran fifth on June 4th, the try wasn't half bad. Expect a nice effort this time.
