SHOOT THE NICKEL showed speed then chased the pace on the outside, made a bid at the seven-sixteenths pole, took the lead in the three path midway through the turn, shook clear outside the quarter-pole, drifted out some under a drive in the stretch and held under strong urging. EZ ROLL was urged along on the outside, went around the turn in the four path, drifted out outside the furlong marker and safely secured the place. TAPARINO was ridden along at the rear, saved ground on the turn, came off the rail outside the quarter-pole, swung out into upper stretch, passed the three-sixteenths near the six path then drifted further out and improved for the show. ALWAYS BE SMART was ridden along towards the rear, moved in with about five furlongs to run, went around the turn in the two to three path, was driven into the stretch in the five path and failed to rally. SOLAR GLARE was urged along on the outside, moved from the three path to the five path on the turn, spun into the stretch in the six path and failed to threaten. MESSI THE MAGICIAN chased the pace, dropped from the two path to the rail early on the turn, saved ground into the stretch and came up empty. KING PHOENIX broke a tad awkwardly, moved up to get the lead then showed the way, was asked in the two path under threat early on the turn, lost the advantage to the winner with three furlongs to run, dropped back at the quarter-pole and faded.
