MERICA'S BACK chased along the inside and then just off the inside coming under encouragement at the five-sixteenths marker, angled out six wide into upper stretch, rallied to take command near the eighth pole, then drew clear under a drive to prevail. ROOFER dueled inside of FIREBALLIN from the get go down the backstretch and through the turn until shaking off that rival just outside five-sixteenths to run, spun just off the inside into upper stretch and was roused straightened away, dug in under threat and was overthrown nearing the eighth pole, kept on clear of the rest for the place honors, then got pulled up in the gallop out and was vetted and transported off the course via the equine ambulance. SIR KARTRITE coaxed from the gate, chased three to four wide coming under urging at the three-eighths marker, angled six wide into upper stretch, dug in under a drive and was improving position and had DON LUIS come out under a left handed crop when weakening nearing the sixteenth pole, got bumped and in turn bumped UNBROKEN CHAIN, then dug in brushing that foe at the wire. UNBROKEN CHAIN chased four to five paths off the rail down the backstretch, tucked to the two path through the turn coming under coaxing three furlongs from home, angled out seven to eight wide into upper stretch, passed tired foes and got bumped by SIR KARTRITE when that foe was bumped by DON LUIS nearing the sixteenth marker, dug in head to head and was brushed at the finish. DON LUIS broke in a step at the start, chased four then three wide coming under a ride at the seven-sixteenths marker, spun three wide for home, dug in under a drive and drifted out when weakening under a left handed crop and bumped SIR KARTRITE into UNBROKEN CHAIN, then continued to back away to the finish. FIREBALLIN coaxed from the start, dueled from the two path with ROOFER to his inside, got shaken off near the five-sixteenths pole, swung four wide into upper stretch in retreat and was eased home to the end. There was a Jockey's Objection lodged by the rider of UNBROKEN CHAIN against SIR KARTRITE alleging interference in the stretch. After review, the result was allowed to stand and the objection was dismissed before the result was declared official.
