Footnotes
PRINCE VALIANT angled in while going to the front then showed the way, was challenged late on the backstretch, vied inside on the turn, was asked to pick it up near the five-sixteenths pole, shook off PROTECTED in upper stretch, swapped back to his inside lead at the furlong marker and drew off under steady urging while continuing on his inside lead to the finish. MOE EIGHTY EIGHT was urged along towards the rear, went around the turn in the two path, moved to the three path outside the quarter-pole, swung out to the five path into upper stretch, passed the sixteenth-pole under extra left-rein guidance and willingly earned the place. PROTECTED was hustled from the gate, moved out then was well placed just off the pace, made a bid outside of the leader late on the backstretch, was asked in the two path on the turn, lost touch with the winner in upper stretch and weakened but just held the show. MY MITOLE was hustled from the gate then urged along off the pace, bumped with a rival late on the backstretch, moved from the rail to the two path late on the turn, moved out in upper stretch, remained on his inside lead until inside the furlong marker then swapped to the proper lead and failed to rally. REYNOLDS CHANNEL was ridden along on the outside, moved from the three path to the four path on the turn, shifted to the five path outside the quarter-pole, turned into upper stretch in the six path and failed to threaten. BUTTAH was urged along at the rear, moved from the two path to the three path on the turn, shifted to the four path outside the quarter-pole, came into upper stretch in the seven path and was no factor. PRIVATE DESIRE settled off the pace, moved in near the five-eighths pole, was taken in hand between horses near the nine-sixteenths pole, bumped with an opponent late on the backstretch, moved from the two path to the three path on the turn, shifted to the four path outside the quarter-pole, dropped back in the five path into the stretch, moved in around the furlong marker and had nothing left. BERMUDA BLITZ tracked the pace down the backstretch, chased in the three path on the turn and capitulated.
