Footnotes
SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN bumped lightly with a rival at the start then went to the front, rounded the first turn in the two path, showed the way with a clear advantage, controlled the action while inside on the far turn, responded well when asked at the quarter-pole and held under strong urging. SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS moved in early, bumped with a foe early on the first turn, was reserved in the two path, came under urging between horses around the five-sixteenths pole, swung out to the four path into upper stretch, pursued the winner on the outside into the final sixteenth and finished with good courage but missed while able to get the place. CABLE READY bumped lightly with a rival at the start then was hustled, rounded the first turn in the three path, stalked the pace on the outside, was asked leaving the backstretch, chased in the three path on the far turn, pursued the winner under a drive in the stretch, kept on willingly to the finish and secured the show. SMOOTH BREEZE saved ground while reserved off the pace, steadied while held up behind a tiring foe near the five-sixteenths pole, was roused in the two path into the stretch, chased under a drive into the final furlong, lacked optimal room along the rail behind horses in the final sixteenth and earned the last spot in the superfecta. IRON MAX raced in the three path on the first turn, was reserved on the outside but with cover until being removed from cover around the five-eighths pole, traveled around the far turn in the three then four path while roused, was driven into the stretch in the five path and lacked the needed response. OUTSOURCE dropped back early, saved ground on the first turn, lagged at the rear, was roused in the three then four path on the far turn, turned into the stretch in the six path and failed to threaten. LEON BLUE was well placed just off the pace on the inside, dropped back under urging on the far turn and came up empty. GENERAL BANKER was taken under a tight hold early, tugged keenly on the bit into the first turn then bumped with a foe, saved ground on that bend, was reserved towards the back, went around the far turn in the two then three path while roused, came out to the five path into the stretch and was no factor. TERMINAL VELOCITY was taken under a strong hold early then tugged on the bit, shifted from the two path to the three path early on the first turn, was reserved off the pace, came under urging leaving the backstretch, went around the far turn in the three path, was driven into the stretch in the four path and had nothing left.
