JOHN THE BEER MAN went to the front, set the pace under pressure to his outside, was asked along the rail on the turn, shook clear into upper stretch, responded well in the final furlong and held under steady urging. FINAL VERDICT pressed the pace between horses, dew even with a half-mile to run, dropped from the three path to the two path very early on the turn, lost touch with the winner into upper stretch, chased that foe in the drive and held the place. MENTEE was hustled from the gate then urged along off the pace, had his path taken near the half-mile pole and steadied then dropped back, retreated further back with three furlongs to run, saved ground on the turn, found his best stride in the final furlong and finished with good energy for the place. SHARDS was hustled from the gate then taken in hand early, raced off the pace under reserve, dropped back leaving the backstretch, went around the turn in the three then four path, came into the stretch in the five path and faltered then was eased in the final furlong but walked off.
