GRAND COMMANDER was urged along in third position, went around the turn in the four path, gained on the embattled leaders in upper stretch, drifted in while taking the lead under a right-handed crop outside the furlong marker then was straightened by the rider and went clear under a hand-ride to prove much the best. SEQUENTIAL bumped with a rival at the start, pressed the pace on the outside, vied in the three path on the turn, turned into upper stretch on even terms for the lead, dueled with THORSNESS into the final furlong, was collared by the winner outside the sixteenth-pole and weakened but just held the place. THORSNESS was away alertly, set the pace on the inside of a foe, vied in the two path on the turn, was roused near the five-sixteenths pole, dueled with the runner-up into the final furlong and also weakened then just missed the place but was well clear for the show. DOWN THE LINE bumped with a rival at the start, was urged along off the pace, went around most of the turn in the five path, dropped to the two path late on that bend and lacked the needed response. UNCLE BARRIE stumbled at the start and was off slow, raced well off the pace under urging, moved from the two path to the four path on the turn, spun into the stretch in the five path while under the crop and was no factor. WINEGOLD broke out and was off a step slow, raced on the outside while ridden along at the back, dropped from the three path to the rail early on the turn and showed little.
