Footnotes
IRON SIGHT broke a step slow then dropped back early, tugged his way closer into the first turn then swerved from the two path to the three path while rank behind horses early on that bend, settled more kindly on the outside but with cover on the backstretch, ranged up in the three then four path on the far turn, made a bid while roused at the quarter-pole, battled outside of two rivals in upper stretch, dueled outside of the runner-up in the final furlong and narrowly prevailed under strong urging. PROTECT AND DEFEND was coaxed to establish a forward position early, became keen and tossed his head in the two path on the first turn, stalked the pace on the outside, made a bid at the seven-sixteenths pole, was asked in the two path on the far turn, battled with two foes in upper stretch, dueled with the winner in the final furlong and was denied while clear for the place. DUTY went to the front, showed the way on the inside while in hand, was given his cue near the five-sixteenths pole, lost the advantage under a drive in upper stretch and proved no match for the top two while able to get the show. GOLD SOVEREIGN angled in while dropping back early, saved ground on the first turn, was reserved off the inside, raced in the two path on the far turn, was roused near the five-sixteenths pole, steadied off heels between foes outside the quarter-pole, moved out under a drive in the stretch and finished willingly but missed the show. DONEGAL TIME became rank when taken under a tight hold early, raced in the three path on the first turn, was reserved off the pace, came under urging leaving the backstretch, chased in the three path on the final turn, dropped back in the five path into the stretch and tired. BRITISH INVASION (IRE) was taken under a strong hold early then rated on the inside, came under some encouragement on the far turn, raced just behind horses heels late on that bend and came up empty.
