Footnotes
CLASSICIST a bit fractious in the gate prior to the start, raced three then two wide through the first turn showing the way before settling into a comfortably rhythm in hand just off the inside down the backstretch, remained just off the rail through the far turn coming under coaxing near the quarter pole, got set down spinning three wide into upper stretch, went to a left handed crop at the three-sixteenths and shied out two paths to the eighth pole, then shied out again two paths nearing the sixteenth marker and brushed with his main danger at that station, dug in head to head to the finish brushing strides from the wire before holding on on the line to prevail. TUSCAN GOLD broke out at the start bumping STURDY, raced three then two wide through the first turn, chased three then two wide in closest aim of the leader, came under urging three furlongs out, swung four wide into upper stretch, dug in under a drive herding out slightly when CLASSICIST shied out near the eighth pole, dug in getting on near even terms and had that foe shy out a sixteenth out and was brushed at that station, fought on to the finish getting brushed jumps from the line and missed at the end when unable to go by. VALENTINIAN coaxed from the gate, chased just off the inside under a ride from the five-sixteenths, angled out six to seven wide into upper stretch, ran on through to the finish. MIKEALICIOUS broke out at the start bumping WAITLIST, raced just off the inside through the first turn and then four paths off the inside down the backstretch, came under coaxing at the seven-sixteenths when four to five wide through the far turn, continued five wide into upper stretch and offered up late foot. CUT THE CORD chased along the inside coming under encouragement at the seven-sixteenths, spun just off the inside into upper stretch, stayed on one paced to the end. WAITLIST got bumped at the start by MIKEALICIOUS, raced along the inside through the first turn and then three to four wide thereafter, went eight wide at the head of the stretch, offered up a bid but was outkicked. STURDY got bumped at the start by TUSCAN GOLD, who broke outwards, raced four then three wide through the first turn, chased four wide coming under a ride at the five-sixteenths, tipped five wide for home and weakened in the stretch. There was a Stewards' Inquiry into the stretch run as well as a claim of foul by the rider of TUSCAN GOLD alleging interference against CLASSICIST in the stretch. After review, the objection was dismissed and the result was allowed to stand prior to the race being declared official.
