Footnotes
BIG POP set the pace while prompted by VESPER CHICKS early, was clear from the three eighths, led while saving ground on the turn, opened up into upper stretch, went to a drive in the final furlong and held sway. SMARTY BE GOOD settled near the rear, chased on while saving ground on the turn, began to rally approaching the turn for home, split horses into the stretch, shifted outside the rest of the pack near the three sixteenths, chased on, found his best stride in the final sixteenth and was up in time for place. VESPER CHICKS attended the pace inside of BIG POP early, settled back to stalk the pace near the three eighths, raced in range in the three path on the turn, proved no match for BIG POP in upper stretch, chased on under a drive and was caught late for the place. BIRDIE BE GONE was forward inside horses in the opening furlong but settled back to chase midfield, was pushed along past the quarter pole and went to a drive inside into the lane, and chased on mildly inside. EVERYTHING BUGS ME chased midpack early outside of SOUNDTRACK and BIRDIE BE GONE, was urged for a bid in the two to three path on the turn while chasing the leading pair, but lacked the needed rally between horses in the lane and flattened late. SOUNDTRACK settled toward the rear, raced between horses near the rear around the bend in the four path, and had no rally in the lane. ASK THE MONARCH was fractious in the gate, reared and unseated his rider but was remounted just before the start, settled near the rear outside SMARTY BE GOOD, raced outside SOUNDTRACK in the five path on the turn, and came up empty from the five sixteenths.
