DE' MEDICI opted to race not too far behind the pace on the inside, angled out four wide in the far turn to move up and press the pace going into the upper stretch, took charge in the final furlong and held firm. FIRST PLAYER settled back to race off the pace, advanced to enter the stretch five wide behind the pace, improved for the place award but could not catch the winner. FIREBALL BIRDIE stalked the early pace three wide, moved up to duel rivals in the upper stretch but weakened in the final sixteenth. RAISING KANE was unhurried at the start to be the early trailer, closed some distance in the far turn before swinging out six wide at the three sixteenths but came up empty. SMOKEN BOY raced behind the pace in the two path, split rivals exiting the turn to press the pace but faded in the final furlong. DEER DISTRICT broke through the gate pre-race, settled along the inside to set the early pace, came under pressure by foes in the far turn to give way at the three sixteenths, retreated and eased across.
