Footnotes
CURLIN'S MALIBU settled three wide between foes into the first turn and up the backstretch racing in the second flight, stalked into the far turn still three deep, moved out leaving that bend, came into upper stretch five to six deep under urging, struck a narrow lead in mid-stretch, was joined by the inside foe just overtaken who proved a game competitor but held that rival under steady handling. FREEDOM ROAD moved forward pressing the pace, contended between foes taking a narrow lead three furlongs out, had a larger advantage turning into upper stretch, was headed near mid-stretch and came out at that juncture to engage, fought on gamely dueling to the wire but was only second best. TIME FOR TROUBLE was in tight between foes on the first turn and shuffled back a bit, settled mid-pack at that point along the rail, saved ground on the far turn, tipped out several paths coming out of that bend, altered back in near the eighth pole for room, rallied inside to get up for show. MONEY RUN broke a half-step slowly, moved forward inside, tracked in behind the leaders inside the second flight saving ground through the first turn, moved out four wide coming past the quarter pole in range, kicked on evenly and lost show honors late. LIAM THE BRAVE came in after the break while encouraged forward outside, stalked three to four wide early, moved nearer contending for the lead near the five-sixteenths, could not sustain the effort and flattened out in the stretch but saved a minor award. HOODLUM bumped a rival just after the start, settled between foes through the first turn, was still mid-pack two wide on the far turn, angled seven wide in upper stretch, kicked on evenly. KING'S RIVER was fractious in the starting gate, was backed out for a veterinarian exam before being re-cleared to go, broke a half-step slowly, settled inside toward the rear, moved out swinging nine wide into upper stretch, passed tired rivals. BLAST RADIUS broke in the air and was squeezed back, raced far back leaving very much to do, advanced some but still trailing coming to the top of the stretch, angled eleven wide in the stretch and improved position. I FEELUCKY TONITE exchanged a hard bump with a rival at the start then was bumped just after, raced three to four wide early, was never near enough to threaten. SHOTSHELL got away well and went straight to the lead to set the pace inside, was pressured throughout, headed but fought on early on the far turn, gave way in the stretch. DADDY JUSTIFY stumbled at the start coming out a bit in the process, moved forward racing outside the second flight four to five wide, stalked up the backstretch, continued four to five deep on the far turn floating six to seven wide into upper stretch, came up empty. SYNTACTIC exchanged a hard bump at the start, was caught outside rivals four to five wide early and racing well back, was never near enough to threaten.
