Footnotes
BOLD ARCH was restrained for the opening two and a half furlongs, was given some rein approaching the far turn, responded stoutly to the pressure from DIOCLES into the stretch and held firm. DIOCLES broke outward into NEWHART, settled four wide, took closer ordering approaching the quarter pole, brought the charge but could not weaken BOLD ARCH late in the stretch. FIREMAN DAN unhurried early, advanced outside in the final turn, and closed gamely with a late surge. HYPERFOCUS saved inside, rallied three wide and evened out. NEWHART bumped leaving the gate, settled four to five wide, and offered a late mild bid. PURSUE fractious in the gate, and offered little. MOUNT DOOM raced in closest pursuit, and wilted in the stretch.
