STAKES Canadian Derby Grade 3 - Thoroughbred
A DERBY STAKE FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS. A fee of $100 required to nominate. A payment of $1800 is required to pass the entry box and an additional $1100 is required to start. The purse will be divided $120,000 to the owner of the winner, $40,000 to the second place finisher, $20,000 to the third place finisher, $10,000 to the fourth place finisher and $4,000 to the fifth place finisher. A payment of $500 will be paid to all horses who start and finish 6th or worse. Preference will be determined by lifetime ear nings as recorded by InCompass Solutions at time of entry. Starters to be named through the entry box by the closing time of entries. The field will be limited to 12 starters with 2 horses placed on the also-eligible list. The status of also-eligible hors es will be determined at 10:00 AM MST on Saturday, August 23rd after pre-race veterinarian examinations. A trophy will be presented to the winning owner. Colts and Geldings: 126 lbs. Fillies: 121 lbs.

TAKE CHARGE TOM stumbled leaving the gate, stalked the pace from the rail, seized a seam on the inside at the top of the lane, surged through to take command, and kicked clear with authority. ACCIDENTAL GENIUS trailed early, raced wide through the backstretch, drove five to six wide off the final turn, closed determinedly outside and won the bob for second. ATTACK tracked four to five wide early, was asked to quicken nearing the final turn, rallied between foes and lost the bob for place. PIONEER STORM KING crossed over quickly on the field to set the pace, took pressure through the backstretch, was overtaken near the three-sixteenth pole, and weakened late stretch. BORDER SONG was under a strong hold early, attended the pace between foes, and came up empty in the drive. DANCING PORKY was bumped in traffic early, angled out sharply entering the opening turn, moved up to contest the pace while four wide, and faded into the stretch. WOOD CEILING steadied leaving the chute, saved ground inside, and lacked a closing response. COUNTER CAT broke inward, and failed to threaten. PUTTINGONTHEFOIL reared leaving the gate, the rider lost balance momentarily, then was rank while in traffic, then exchanged bumps with DANCING PORKY, shifted out four wide into the backstretch, and tired. FANCY LIKE THAT allowed to settle early, and faded gradually.
