Footnotes
JOURNALISM moved just before the gates open and came away last, trailed the field into the first turn, moved into range around the bend in the two path, stalked outside SHEA BRENNAN into the far turn, took aim at the top trio three to four wide turning for home, surged to the front approaching the eighth pole, moved clear midstretch and held safely over SHEA BRENNAN late. SHEA BRENNAN stalked the speed from inside, shifted to the two path at the quarter pole, lacked room in upper stretch, angled out to a clear path, finished gamely and was gaining outside JOURNALISM late. IRON MAN CAL showed early speed then took a stalking position outside the leader on the clubhouse turn, applied pressure to MIRAHMADI past the five-eighths pole, vied between runners into the far turn, put a head in front at the five-sixteenths pole, overtaken by THE GOAT (CHI) past the quarter pole, fought back into the final furlong, then flattened to third. THE GOAT (CHI) tracked in the two then three path early, bid three deep on the backstretch, gained a short advantage over inner rivals late on the far turn, relinquished the lead to JOURNALISM in upper stretch and weakened in the late stages. MIRAHMADI took control early, pressured by IRON MAN CAL past the five-eighths pole then vied with outer pair up the backstretch, lost command midway around the far turn, stayed on to the three-sixteenths pole, then tired in the stretch.
