Footnotes
DOTTIE HINSON raced up close on the inside, followed from the fence through the turn, challenged LADY MENDELSSOHN from inside at the top of the stretch, put a head in front at the eighth pole, battled to the wire and gamely prevailed. LADY MENDELSSOHN pressed four deep up the backstretch, vied three deep on the turn, dueled past the five-sixteenths pole, took over with a quarter mile remaining put STAY IN LINE away turning for home and moved in a bit, challenged by DOTTIE HINSON immediately after, lost command at the eighth pole, fought back through the final furlong and finished gamely to the wire but came up just short. COTTA RIDE chased from inside, ridden along on the turn, steered out and bumped BROOKYS GAL in upper stretch, finished willingly in the late stages and outdueled PAVEL'S ETOILE for third. PAVEL'S ETOILE settled off the made progress three, four, then five wide around the bend, chased in tandem with COTTA RIDE in the final furlong and got edged for third. STAY IN LINE showed the way early under pressure from outer rivals, vied in the two path around the bend, lost the lead at the quarter pole, chased after the new leader into the lane, moved out in upper stretch and weakened. ZADRA stalked off the rail then outside a rail, eased out to the four path on the turn, got bumped in upper stretch and weakened. BROOKYS GAL pressed the pace between rival, failed to keep up with the top pair approaching the quarter pole, chased three wide into the lane, got knocked into outer rival and took up in upper stretch and was not persevered with in the late stages. SMILE BABY SMILE came in to bother MISS KONA early, tracked from off the rail out of range, raced in the two path then found the rail at the quarter pole and failed to menace. MISS KONA got forced in by SMILE BABY SMILE shortly after the start, trailed up the backstretch, angled five wide around the turn and was never a factor. THERE WAS AN INQUIRY INVOLVING COTTA RIDE, BROOKYS GAL AND ZADRA IN THE STRETCH RUN. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS UNANIMOUSLY RULED TO DISQUALIFY COTTA RIDE FROM THIRD TO SEVENTH FOR COMING OUT AND CAUSING INTERFERENCE TO BROOKYS GAL AND ZADRA IN UPPER STRETCH.
