Footnotes
CALL SIGN SEVEN traveled along the inside near the back of the pack, stayed on the fence through the far turn, trailed into the stretch, moved off the rail a bit but saw a wall of rivals ahead entering the final furlong, dove back to the inside and surged to get up in the final strides. ASTRONOMER stalked the top pair from inside, followed behind EL POTENTE through the far turn, got boxed in upper stretch, bid inside the EL POTENTE with a sixteenth remaining and got outkicked by the winner. EL POTENTE dueled for the lead inside CABO SPIRIT, took control while still under pressure from that rival on the clubhouse turn, fought on even terms again around the second turn, put CABO SPIRIT away at the top of the stretch, carried a short lead into deep stretch and yielded grudgingly to the top pair. OLD PAL sat off the pace outside a rival, continued two wide around the far turn, spun three wide into the lane, angled out to launch a rally, fought six deep into the final sixteenth, finished gamely to the wire and missed third. ALMENDARES (GB) tracked from the two path, took aim three wide leaving the far turn, challenged in upper stretch but got outkicked in the late stages. STAY HOT tucked inside at the back then moved into the two path on the clubhouse turn, raced outside a rival into the second bend, steered out and came four wide into the stretch and failed to threaten. SUMTER reserved in the opening stages along the rail, crept closer in hand on the far turn, chased two wide into the lane, tipped out in upper stretch, bid midstretch but flattened out in the final sixteenth. CABO SPIRIT dueled from outside to the clubhouse turn, pressed EL POTENTE around the bend and up the backstretch, hounded that rival around the far turn, then yielded in upper stretch and weakened in the final furlong.
