Footnotes
WESTERN SHAFT away well, got clear through a quickly run opening quarter mile, continued to hold daylight through the turn, plenty left in the drive to hold the runner up comfortably safe under steady handling. CANDY ROAD last away, fell further back soon after, began a steady gain while off the inside midway on the turn, angled toward the rail exiting the turn, closed the gap on the winner past the furlong marker then could make no more progress on that one, well clear of the others. EMERGING LEADER (ARG) forwardly placed early, idled through the turn toward the inside in falling back to trail, along for the third position in the late going while no match for the top pair. LOUD APPLAUSE chased the winner from off the inside through that quick early pace, had little left when called on for the drive, staged a steady retreat to the wire.
