Footnotes
JUSTIN SMILES was forwardly placed away from the start then shuffled approaching the first turn, settled outside of rivals then advanced into the backstretch, was roused three wide to the far turn, loomed nearing the quarter pole and took command to upper stretch, was a bit green into the lane then drew clear into the final furlong, drew off under moderate late urging and was hand ridden to the wire to win comfortably. DOUBLE MILES took back off of the early pace and saved ground to the first turn, shifted out along the backstretch, was roused three wide into the far turn, responded to upper stretch and closed well into the final sixteenth, could not impact the winner late and was a clear second. LASER was prominent early on while outside of rivals, caught four to five wide into the first turn, settled in the second flight and between rivals into the backstretch, chased the leaders to the second turn, ran in pursuit three wide nearing the quarter pole, improved position into the lane, was outkicked in the final furlong and held safely in the end for third. SEEDORF vied for the early lead from between rivals, took command into the first turn then set the pace two wide into the backstretch, was overtaken heading into the far turn, chased two wide then from the rail nearing the top of the lane, weakened in the drive, got caught in tight between rivals into the final sixteenth and was outkicked late for the show honors. MY FOOLISH NOTION was forwardly placed to the first turn, tucked in and tracked the leaders from the inside heading into the backstretch, lost position nearing the far turn, ran in pursuit between rivals nearing the top of the stretch, shifted out at the furlong pole and did not rally late. DAVID PEPPERMAN was close up to the early lead then shuffled to the first turn, was a bit rank between rivals along that bend then was taken to the outside and rushed to contention into the backstretch, made a four wide middle move heading to the half-mile pole, took command and led into the far turn, came under pressure at the quarter marker, was overtaken to upper stretch and gave way in the drive. STARR OF JERICHO prominent in the early going, prompted the pace from the inside heading into the backstretch, chased from the rail approaching the far turn, could not keep pace nearing the quarter pole then tired in the stretch drive. BETTER DAY lost his path at the start and was off slowly, settled to the first turn, went two wide along the backstretch, ran in pursuit two then three wide to the quarter marker and did not threaten in the stretch. TURBO FIRE close up to the early pace, stalked three wide into the first turn, tracked the decent pace to the half-mile marker, gave way into the far turn, was eased through the stretch drive and walked off. TENNESSEE WALTZ settled and saved ground to the first turn, was unhurried along the backstretch, saved ground to the far turn, lacked a response to upper stretch and came up empty in the drive.
