Footnotes
BEACH COLT (CHI) sent for the early lead, assumed command and showed the way up the backstretch, carved out a decent pace to the quarter marker then met the bid of CANUTO to upper stretch, dug in while under pressure into the final furlong, held off the runner-up in deep stretch and kept to task in the final yards. CANUTO broke a bit slowly and settled off of the early pace, advanced outside of rivals into the turn then bid three wide at the quarter marker, confronted BEACH COLT (CHI) to upper stretch, battled outside of that rival into the lane, fought gamely to the final sixteenth, was held at bay in deep stretch and was a clear second. BACK EM UP rated just off of the early pace and tracked from the inside along the backstretch, got caught in tight approaching the turn and took up at the seven-sixteenths marker, lost position into the turn, angled three then four wide nearing the top of the stretch, re-bid into the drive, was gaining late and was clear for third in a good effort. MR. PEEKS raced close up to the early pace, chased two wide to the turn, ran in pursuit between rivals heading to the quarter marker, angled three wide to upper stretch and ran on to the furlong marker, could not sustain a run to the final sixteenth and flattened out. JOEY MUSCLES broke a step slowly, recovered to chase the early pace from between rivals, advanced three wide along the turn, was outkicked to upper stretch and weakened in the late stages. SHEA D WORLD was forwardly placed early on while outside of rivals, tracked four wide into the turn, lost position nearing the quarter marker, trailed to upper stretch then came up empty in the drive. SMART MO refused to break at the start and walked off. THE STEWARDS CONDUCTED AN INQUIRY INTO THE START INVOLVING SMART MO. THE STEWARDS DETERMINED THAT SMART MO CAUSED HIS OWN ISSUES AT THE START AND RULED NO ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN.
