Footnotes
WITT'S TEN TOUCH was hustled hard from the start and went a length clear early, maintained that margin through the turn, held clear under steady handling and urging, and was widening a bit in the final yards. ONTHETHIRSTYSIDE was pushed on early, tracked in the middle of the tight pack, never more than a couple of lengths from the front, kept to the two-path throughout, wasn't doing enough in upper stretch but found best stride late and moved up to take down the second prize. TEXAS HUNK was off a step slow, then forced out by PREACHERMAN from the inside, raced four-wide down the backstretch, moved up into contention going into the turn, got to within a length of the leader with a three-wide bid approaching the quarter pole, but flattened out a bit in the stretch and was passed up late for the place. FOUR JIM was under a ride from the break, settled in a stalking position to the inside of WITT'S TEN TOUCH, came under pressure to keep up late on the turn, was still in the mix in mid-stretch, but faded in the final furlong. PREACHERMAN broke outward, then was hustled forward position, was close up in the run down the backstretch, then started to drop back a bit, steadied when cut off by TEXAS HUNK before the three-furlong pole, lost momentum, and was unable to recover.
