Footnotes
C. P. A. JIM was allowed to settle after the break and took a tracking position in the middle of the field through the early stages, moved up closer late on the backstretch run, saved ground through the far turn, got an opening up the rail, hit the front by mid-stretch, and responded to strong handling and urging to hold off MARC in the final furlong. MARC ceded the lead and settled well behind the pacesetter through the first half, rated nicely despite the slow pace, launched a bid from the quarter pole, finished well while battling with C. P. A. JIM on the inside, but came up short at the line with a good distance back to the next finisher. SHANGHAI CUPID settled in the back half of the field racing in the two-path, finished up well in the stretch to gain third. ASHBURNER missed the break, then went three-wide through the clubhouse turn, advanced three-wide on the backstretch run, continued to gain ground while racing wide on the far turn, bid five-wide into the stretch, and finished with good interest but was not good enough. EL CHAVO was unhurried from the break, held up near the back through the early stages, bided time along the rail with no clear path forward down the backstretch and through the far turn, never really got clear run until late and had a bit of a kick in the final yards. ESSENTIAL STORM was the early trailer, racing well off the rail, went four-wide through the far turn, and had a clear run into the stretch but was outkicked in the sprint to the wire. SPECIAL AGENDA showed the best speed from the inside gate and made the lead going into the first turn, maintained a clear advantage to the stretch while rating kindly, was overtaken just past the quarter pole, tried to fight back to mid-stretch but weakened in the final furlong. RICHOCHET RICK tracked three-wide in the second flight, was close up to the stretch, then lacked a finish and was the last one home.
