Footnotes
THOUSAND CHANCES settled two-wide behind the pacesetter, moved up to challenge at the five-sixteenths, pulled even at the quarter, dueled clear of the rest of he field through the stretch, got a head in front just yards from the finish to grab the top prize. ZORRITOS DASH took a bump from YOUNG POPE after the break and stumbled, recovered quickly to jump out the early lead turning on to the main course, led the way down the backstretch and into the turn, then was taken on by THOUSAND CHANCES at the five-sixteenths marker, battled back gamely and dueled with that rival through the stretch well clear of the rest but came up short in the end. BAYOUSUMCRAWFISH settled close up in third position along the rail, could not go with the top two from mid-stretch, but outfinished the rest of the field to be a clear third. YOUNG POPE was restless before the start and broke step behind the rest, raced three-wide throughout, steadily advanced from the back to mid-field on the last turn, turned for home with aim on the leading pair, but was unable to generate a solid rally. GUITAR MAN was close up down the chute, then took back to mid-pack to the half-mile mark, kept to the inside to the stretch, but lacked the necessary late response. ENIGMA CODE took up at the start, was last onto the main course, settled in at the back with RED DIRT ALLEY keeping company on the outside, started a forward move as the field went into the far turn, but flattened out in the stretch and did not threaten. REMITTANCE went three-wide from the middle of the pack through the clubhouse turn, then tracked no far behind the pace going down the backstretch, and was unable to generate a late rally. MILLERS BRO broke slowly, raced at the rear of the main pack, and was never involved. RED DIRT ALLEY steadied heading into the clubhouse turn, settled at the back, and never fired.
