Footnotes
COOL AGENT hustled away from the gate, briefly pressed five-wide but backed out of the developing speed duel, moved up into contention on the turn, responded to strong handling in the stretch, and wore down HEAT UM UP in the final yards to prevail. HEAT UM UP broke on top, vied between horses early, then moved off with TEXAS HUNK to duel through the turn and into the stretch, put the stubborn rival away approaching the final sixteenths, but could not hold off the winner in the final yards. LOOK NO MO came away a little awkwardly, was outpaced early while staying to the outside, made a sweeping move around the field on the turn, with aim on the leaders at the top of the stretch, and finished well to claim the third prize. SLAMIN SAMMIE broke out and bumped with CINCO WAR PAINT, then moved up closer into the turn, was behind horses near the five-sixteenths marker, came out to the four-path for the stretch run, and was mildly gaining in the final yards. TEXAS HUNK was off a step slow, rushed to the lead at the five-furlong pole, got clear heading into the turn, then was beset by challengers leaving the quarter pole, kept fighting on to mid-stretch, then weakened a bit in the final yards. CINCO WAR PAINT hustled up into the early pace mix from the rail, could not make the lead, settled in behind the leaders, then flattened out in upper stretch; was dismounted on the backstretch and trasnported from the track in the equine ambulance. RUNNING POINT showed brief speed, then dropped back while under a drive before the turn, and had nothing to offer in the stretch. SHANGHAI CHARLIE got shuffled back at the start, then hustled up into the early pace fray, struggled to keep up midway through the turn, and tired in the stretch.
