Footnotes
FALCON QUEST settled inside near the back, chased inside trip through the turn, then sustained the rally in the stretch and got up in the last jump. WHEN SMOKEY SINGS went to a slight lead early, held sway through the turn, came under a ride approaching the quarter pole, dug in gamely when confronted by FALCON CREST in the final yards, and just missed. BISHOP CREEK was outrun and dropped far back early, rallied under a drive from the three-furlong pole, surged late, and was just up for the minor award. ALL COUNTRY hustled up into the early pace mix, settled in just behind the leader to the turn, had aim on the leader turning for home, dove to the rail just past the three-sixteenths marker, was put in a bit tight in mid-stretch, and weakened slightly in the final yards. MIDNIGHT HUNTER hit the front of the gate before the start, got away poorly, spotting the field a big head start, steadily advanced through the trip to improve. BLINKNUMISSIT pressed the early pace three-wide down the backstretch, launched a bid from the three-furlong pole, was under a drive and unable to pull even with the leaders, then failed to change leads and faltered in the stretch. FIRST CAPE chased way off the pace of the forward group, then lacked a rally. BAR HOPPIN BILLY was close up three-wide to the turn, weakened, and stopped in the stretch. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE START, AND THE JOCKEY ON #3 ALL COUNTRY LODGED A CLAIM OF FOUL AGAINST #2 WHEN SMOKEY SINGS ALLEGING INTERFERENCE IN DEEP STRETCH. AFTER A REVIEW OF THE START, NO ACTION WAS TAKEN, AND THE CLAIM OF FOUL WAS DISALLOWED.
