Footnotes
BERGHEIM settled five-wide down the backstretch, then moved up to join the leaders late on the backstretch, vied four-wide through the last turn, was the outside horse of a trio contesting the final result through the stretch, then edged ahead inside the furlong grounds to prevail. CHASING COYOTES got bumped by the outside rival at the start, still managed forward position and settled in behind BINARY CODE, went after that one after passing the half-mile pole, then was joined by another rival to the outside, vied between horses through the stretch run, battled gamely but came up short in the final yards. BINARY CODE broke well and went clear on the first turn, was left alone on the lead to dictate terms, slowed the pace for the first half, got some pressure from a pair of rivals passing the half-mile mark, quickened the pace approaching the three-furlong pole, then gave way grudgingly late. HEATS HERO was four to five wide on both turns, tracked near the back of the field early, moved up on the far turn, then outfinished the rest of the field but was far behind the top three. FLY RED BIRD FLY hopped in the air at the starte, then settled along the rail near the back despite the slow pace, moved up to join the forward group down the backstretch, came into the stretch racing on the left lead and faltered. PAINTED LAD was not asked for speed from the break, went three-wide through the first turn, raced between horses, became boxed in heading into the turn, but could not kick on with the rest in the stretch, and was not involved late. POLLITO TITO raced three-wide and close up to the far turn, then could not kick on when the pace picked up mid-way through the turn, dropped back through the field and had nothing left for the stretch. SLIM JIMMY bumped with CHASING COYOTES at the break, got caught four-wide into the clubhouse turn, raced at the back of the compact field to the half, saved ground throughout, but struggled to keep up as the pace quickened in the second half of the race.
