Footnotes
THE CAJUN GATSBY sent aggressively to the front, was left to dictate the early fractions with QUALITY STYLE always a constant presence to the outside, responded when asked to quicken before the three-furlong pole, set down with that rival into the stretch, and held sway in a sprint to the wire. QUALITY STYLE stalked the pace from the outset, quickened away from the rest with THE CAJUN GATSBY on the turn, dueled gamely through the stretch, was slowly closing the gap and was ultimately unable to reel in that rival in the late stages. THOUSAND CHANCES tracked in third position early, took an inside path through the far turn, was blocked until deep stretch, then kicked on but was too late and galloped out strongly. ROMAN EAGLE went three-wide into the first turn, settled in the middle of the field, launched a bid midway through the far turn, was finishing up well, then had to steady in the final yards. ETERNAL MISCHIEF brought up the rear in the compact field, kept up a steady pace at the back, but was unable to threaten. WITHERING GAZE unhurried early, settled inside, finished up with some interest, but was not doing enough in the late stages. ROYALIST raced near the back of the field, two or three paths off the rail, and lacked a finish. THE JOCKEY ON #7 THOUSAND CHANCES LODGED A CLAIM OF FOUL AGAINST #2 QUALITY STYLE ALLEGING INTERFERENCE IN THE STRETCH. ALSO, THE TRAINER OF #8 ROMAN EAGLE LODGED AN OBJECTION AGAINST #7 THOUSAND CHANCES ALSO ALLEGING INTEREFERENCE IN THE SAME INCIDENT. AFTER A LENGTHY REVIEW, THE STEWARDS DISALLOWED BOTH CLAIMS AND THE ORIGINAL RESULTS WERE MADE OFFICIAL.
