Footnotes
JUST OKIE broke inward at the start, steadily advanced while keeping to the rail down the backstretch, moved out a path to make a run at the leader passing the quarter pole, responded to steady handling and intermittent urging, slowly gaining despite racing on the left lead, got straight in deep stretch and surged to the front in the final yards. EMPIRE'S BEST came away well and gained the early advantage with IMPERIAL HORNET in close attendance to the inside, tried to quicken away on the turn and led into the stretch, finished gamely under steady handling but got nailed in the final jumps. IN THE ARCH broke well but opted to sit off the pace, advanced on the leaders three wide through the turn, then continued with a steady rally in the stretch but came up a bit short at the wire. IMPERIAL HORNET broke well and pressed the pace from the rail, came under pressure at the quarter pole, was in a little tight at the sixteenth and went flat in the final yards. PALUXY raced inside of three horses at the back of the field, broke away from the others in an attempted rally on the turn, drifted about five wide under a stiff drive and strong urging and managed to split the field. BIG ROJO raced three wide between the tracking group and the trailers, came under a stiff drive with three furlongs to but finished one-paced the rest of the way. JOHNNY APPLESEED was the middle horse of the three trailers, got a rail run through the turn but could not make an impact. STANS HOME RUN raced three wide as part of the trio bringing up the rear, never launched a bid and only beat one to the finish. INTERSTELLAR raced close up three wide to the turn, started to fade late on the turn then had nothing to offer in the stretch.
