Footnotes
SLAMIN SAMMIE broke well and was briefly involved in a five-way pace battle, backed out before the half, then re-engaged on the turn, loomed large at the quarter pole, then went clear under steady handling and intermittent urging in the final furlong. LOOK NO MO veered into the path of the inside rival at the start, raced in last down the backstretch but never far back in the tight pack, advanced four-wide on the turn to be four-wide as the field turned for home, chased the winner home well clear of the rest but could not close the gap. CHIEF BROWN was the inside horse in the early duel, backed off to mid-pack on the turn, then found another gear in the final furlong and rallied to take the third spot. BLAME DA INNOCENT took up after the start, then was rank and hard to place in the run up the backstretch, lacked a path early into the turn, then swung six-wide into the stretch, had some trouble changing leads, and flattened out. HEAT UM UP broke best veered into the path of a rival at the start, was immediately beset with challengers on all sides, ceded the lead past the half, then raced in cover through the turn, then weakened in the final furlong. HOOS FOOS tracked in the middle of the bunched-upfield, became boxed in late on the turn, could not get free until mid-stretch then lacked a response once clear. ONTHETHIRSTYSIDE was four-wide in the early pace mix, got over to the rail before the turn, then weakened in the stretch. TEXAS HUNK broke well, contested the early pace five-wide, took the lead past the five-sixteenths marker, then tired in the stretch. RED DIRT ALLEY lost the path after the start, raced briefly with the pack then went very wide on the turn and struggled to keep up late.
