Footnotes
YOUNG POPE tracked three-wide close up early, then moved up going into the turn to pressure ENIGMA CODE two-wide, ranged up in hand approaching the quarter pole, responded when roused in upper stretch, then held off a determined rival in the final furlong to prevail. READY AND ABLE was slow to begin, made steady forward progress up the backstretch to be three-wide within range of the leaders heading into the turn, bid four or five wide into the stretch, closed in on YOUNG POPE on the lead, but could not get by while finishing well clear of the next horse. COAL STONE settled mid-pack along the rail, then chugged along through the stretch to take the third prize. RICHOCHET RICK got a good forward position on the inside, had every chance turning for home, but weakened in the final furlong. ENIGMA CODE made the lead by the end of the chute, dug in under threat from YOUNG POPE going into the turn, then weakened in upper stretch. CODY THE KID tracked between horses in the middle of the pack, had trouble with the lead change in upper stretch and faltered. MOONWALK dropped to last shortly after the start, and trailed throughout.
