BOBBY BRINKLEY was sent hard to get the early lead, then taken in hand to temper the pace, traded the lead a few times with SPECIAL MOMENT through the first three-quarters, responded when set down at the top of the stretch and held firm to the wire under steady handling. RED MOUNTAIN was kept under wraps near the back through the early stages, tracked inside at the back of the main pack to the far turn, then advanced under a drive to improve position the stretch, continued to run on under strong handling and moved up to gain the place in the last jumps. SPECIAL MOMENT dueled to the outside of BOBBY BRINKLEY through the early stages, trading the lead along the way, let that rival get the jump in upper stretch, chased gamely but weakened a bit in the final yards. MALIBU S S got caught four-wide into the clubhouse turn, steadily advanced three-wide through the middle stages, took closer order late on the far turn, pursued into the stretch but was not good enough. MR JAWS pulled up close three-wide with the rider trying to temper the pace, settled in cover up the backstretch, then went after the leaders from midway through the far turn, but flattened out in upper stretch and failed to menace. COVERT KAT got forward position into the first turn, was in tight quarters early, settled in mid-pack along the rail, then weakened late on the far turn and had little to offer in the stretch while racing on the wrong lead. COURAGEOUSLY was always behind the field and trailed throughout.
