SIPPIN SCOTCH hustled away and secured the early lead, leaving the chute, proceeded to dictate moderate fractions while being left alone on the lead, quickened heading into the far turn, while maintaining a clear advantage, responded when set down in earnest at the top of the lane, and held sway under steady handling to prevail. BINARY CODE was rank passing the stands the first time and continued to fight the rider through the first turn, settled down up the backstretch, raced up close to the stretch, then produced a strong finish to just miss. ROMAN EAGLE broke in and made some light contact with WHISKEY OVER ICE, secured a rail position and tucked in behind the pace through the early stages, bided time without a clear path to the stretch, had the winner get first run, but finished up well to take the third prize. GRIND JIM was unhurried from the start and settled at the back of the pack, advanced closer on the far turn, then made a nice late run to improve while never becoming a serious threat. JUST BERNIE got forward position but was hung out three to four wide on both turns, finished up with some interest but could not produce the needed late kick. FLY RED BIRD FLY was very fractious in the gate, got caught four-wide on the clubhouse turn, settled wide in the middle of the pack, was able to quicken with the pace on the far turn, then had a problem with the lead change in the stretch and flattened out. AIR OF GHURAIR got shuffled back after the start, had only one horse behind turning onto the main course, bided time through the middle stages, then went six or seven wide into the stretch but was unable to improve. DAPILOT raced close up in the middle of the field to the stretch, then lacked a finish. WHISKEY OVER ICE got bumped at the start, then raced near the back, then never offered a rally and finished well behind the rest.
