VERMELHO rated at the rear along the inside, trailed in the two path turning for home, swung out to the eight path into upper stretch, rallied widest with a good kick and reeled in the leaders late. GOLD SOVEREIGN tracked in the three path, bid three deep rounding the far turn, vied between horses into the final furlong, led in the final sixteenth but got outkicked late. LAHAINALUNA was bumped by an outer foe early on, pursued from midpack in the three path, shifted five wide entering the lane, rallied with a grinding charge to bid at the furlong grounds, vied with an inner rival into the final sixteenth but got outkicked by an outer bidder late. DINGLEWOOD set a clear pace early on, got collared by an outer pair around the far turn, fought on gamely while hanging on his left lead but yielded late. PROTECT AND DEFEND was bumped by an outer rival into an inner foe and steadied back early on, settled well back in the three to four path, progressed outside of foes into the far turn, fanned to the six path entering the lane, got outkicked by an outer rival while getting floated to the seven path in midstretch then ran on willingly. MORTAL LOCK tracked from the two path, the between horses with nine sixteenths to go and weakened through the lane.
