SUMMER LOVER chased from inside out of range early, drew closer under coaxing on the backstretch, continued to save ground around the far turn, rallied up the inside to take over in deep stretch and held over the runner-up. CONFUCIUS was hard to load prior to the start, unhurried two wide then along the rail, moved out and asked four wide through the far turn, finished strong down the lane but could not get by the winner. OPPOSITES ATTRACT got bumped leaving the gate, traveled three then two wide around the first turn, settled in mid-pack, drew closer on the inside around the far turn, tipped out in upper stretch, lacked room behind a wall of rivals and altered in midstretch, kept on from inside and gained third. SLEW SKIES raced in the two path near the back, split rivals on the backstretch, made progress around the far turn, swung five wide into the lane, summoned a mild rally and rounded out the superfecta. VERACRUZIN stalked three wide early, urged along still three wide on the second bend, challenged in upper stretch, put a head in front past the eighth pole, jumped the track at the sixteenth pole and flattened late. SPARRA broke in and bumped, was closest in pursuit from the two path, drew alongside the leader late on the backstretch, chased two wide past the quarter pole, re-bid between with a furlong remaining but flattened out in the last sixteenth. JOHNNYSJOURNEY bumped leaving the gate, chased four then three wide off the pace, moved into range in the middle stages, chased between then two to three wide on the far turn, pursued in range into the final furlong but needed to find more. CITY OF LOVE sent for the front and cleared along the inside, took pressure late on the backstretch, inched clear with a quarter mile remaining, challenged by rivals in upper stretch and weakened in the furlong grounds. SMARTY ALEX trailed three wide into the first turn then angled to the inside, had one rival beat saving ground through the far turn and could not make an impact. SHADY GRADY saved ground well off the pace, moved out on the far turn and was never a factor. INCH tracked four wide early, chased three deep on the far turn, tipped out in upper stretch and weakened. RIGHTANDJUST bumped at the start, dropped off the pace five then four wide on the clubhouse turn, raced outside rivals on the backstretch, trailed three wide into the lane and came up empty.
