Footnotes
CHRISTMAS SPIRIT hard sent between rivals into the first turn, shook clear leaving the seven eighths, set the pace towards the inside, met an outer bid from IMPERIAL SPY leaving the far turn, dueled and alternated for the lead from the head of the lane, drifted out under left handed asking in deep stretch and kept on tenaciously while getting the bob. IMPERIAL SPY , four then three wide prompting the pace, moved closer in hand leaving the five eighths, went on the attack around the far turn, sparred from there, kept on valiantly while floated out late and just missed. TELL 'EM I'M COMIN , sluggish from the gate, lagged back off the pace and off the inside, circled five wide into the lane and closed steadily. EDELWEISS , in a bit close entering the first turn, was taken to rate inside, eased out and moved up between runners near the half, awaited room near the three eighths, angled out and found a seam to advance in upper stretch, shifted in while chasing in mid stretch then flattened out. OXFORD UNION , three wide early, lacked a bid. FURIOUS GEORGE , three wide to contention, prompted through the backstretch while three wide, failed to quicken with the top pair as they separated from rivals past the three eighths, chased four wide into the stretch and weakened. JOSE CAN'T SAY steadied nearing the first turn, regrouped to chase, saved ground leaving the five sixteenths and weakened. UNDER THE RUG vied inside into the first turn, rated back off the leader leaving the seven eighths, stalked to the far turn and faltered. ALBERT FINNIGAN , acting up just as the gates sprung, reared causing his rider to dismount. There was a stewards' inquiry into the start of ALBERT FINNIGAN. No action was deemed necessary.
