HAY CHIEF lacked speed, remained along the inner rail around the first turn, down the backstretch, eased out on the far turn, floated to the four path at the head of the stretch, closed steadily and was up near the finish. SELF TAUGHT , unhurried early, raced in the two path on the backstretch, three path on the far turn, too, the lead in upper stretch, went clear and gave way grudgingly. BE BETTER lagged to the far turn, circled three wide, floated to the five path at the head of the lane and passed tired horses. MORNING THOUGHTS hugged the inner rail, dueled with COLLECTION DAY for six furlongs, repelled that one leaving the far turn, was over taken in upper stretch and weakened on his left lead. COLLECTION DAY , under urging into the first turn and leaving the backstretch, dueled outside MORNING THROUGHTS for six furlongs then tired. PRINCE KHOZAN was looking around at the break, was kept outside horses down the backstretch and failed to be a factor. MAJESTIC TIGER stalked the pace and faltered on the far turn.
