PATRICK'S PROMISE remained along the inner rail on the first turn, eased out leaving the backstretch, circled the far turn five wide, took a short lead in upper stretch and held sway under steady urging. DESPERATE PROPOSAL , in hand leaving the backstretch, was caught behind horses in upper stretch, angled to the four path in mid stretch and closed gamely between rivals. WICKED BOSS , steadied when pinched back leaving the starting gate, angled in, hugged the inner rail on the first turn and down the backstretch, swung to the six path leaving the far turn and rallied outside. ORACLE OF BEAUFORT showed speed along the inner rail the opening quarter, stalked the leader down the backstretch, stayed inside horses on the far turn, moved out and flattened out between rivals. BEEKMAN STREET , a forward factor between horses the first turn, hugged the inner rail on the far turn, eased out to the two path at the head of the stretch, bid for the lead inside the winner in mid stretch then weakened. TYSON'S DELIVERY up close down the backstretch and off the rail, swung to the five path turning for home and gave way. THINGAMABOB advanced in the three path on the far turn and gave way in mid stretch. MIDDLEBURG , three wide the first turn, eagerly sprinted clear entering the backstretch, hugged the rail the far turn and tired. JAMES P SULLIVAN , three wide both turns, faltered.
