Footnotes
BRILLIANT PLAN seized the early lead, held sway through the turn while always traveling well, responded when asked to go on at the top of the stretch, and kicked clear, then was taken in hand through the final yards. CURLIN'S UNION last down the backstretch, moved up through the turn, then found best stride late and rallied into second. SPECIAL AGENDA tracked off the pace along the rail, kept on well late, but was outfinished for the place. COMBAT CARL got bumped by the inside rival but got away well, was always close up two-wide, had some trouble changing leads in the stretch, and was unable to mount a late bid. CODY THE KID raced close up initially, steadily retreated in the run down the backstretch, came under a ride with three furlongs to run, then faltered in the stretch while racing on the wrong lead. COASTAL WARRIOR ducked in at the start, chased the early leader two-deep, came under a ride leaving the three-furlong pole and went one-packed through the stretch. ESSENTIAL STORM veered out at the start, bothing the rival in the next stall, was outpaced through the early stages and was never a threat. HIDALGO was unprepared for the start and spotted the field several lengths head start, moved up to mid-pack passing the half-mile pole, then folded midway through the turn and had nothing to offer in the stretch.
