Footnotes
DERO'S DEPUTY was quickest from the gate, opened up a big lead early, always travelling well, and won as the rider pleased. FAITH'S SPIRIT gave futile chase in second position, kept trying to the finish to be well clear of the third finisher. BETTER DAY tracked between horses in the second flight, made a mild late bid to outfinish the rest of the field. THE BIRDMAN got crowded after the start, raced three to four wide throughout near the back, finished with some late interest and just missed the minor award. WHOLELOTAGREYAREA raced close up on the inside to the turn, then faded in the late stages. UNUSUAL HOLIDAY was not asked for speed from the start, chased at the back, was asked to go on after passing the half-mile pole, but lacked a response.
