Footnotes
SAINT BENJI was the inside horse in a four-way scramble for the early lead, shook off one rival past the half-mile pole, hugged the inside and came off the last bend clear of the rest, then increased the margin through the stretch run under steady handling. DETTORI tracked the pace battle five-wide, continued wide around the turn, loomed a threat in upper stretch, but hung in the final furlong and had to settle for second. ZED vied two-deep, steadied and dropped back just after the half-mile pole, tipped out five-wide into the stretch, and was mildly gaining ground in the late stages and got up in to the third spot. MAXXUS contested the pace three-deep, then flattened out in the stretch. LUCKY TAPITURE raced near the back early, then lacked a finish. I'M A DUDE TO broke well, vied four-wide in the early pace battle, and gave way at the top of the stretch. DEACON JONES broke poorly, chased at the back three-wide, and passed tired foes in the lane. ELIGIO was three-wide in the middle of the pack in the run down the backstretch, then lacked a late bid. AWESOME NAME dropped back after a good start and never menaced.
