MELLENCAMP stumbled at the start, recovered to track the early pace from the inside, saved ground into the turn then caught in tight at the quarter marker, weaved through rivals into upper stretch, responded well past mid-stretch, took command in deep stretch and proved best late. WISE DECISION sent for the early lead, set a contested pace from the inside heading into the turn, carved out decent fractions to the quarter marker, led to upper stretch then dug in into the final furlong, could not match strides with the winner into the final sixteenth and just held for second. SANDS OF TIME settled in the second flight to begin, went up to stalk the pace three deep along the backstretch, well placed to the quarter pole, gave chase three wide into the stretch, battled into the final sixteenth, was outkicked in deep stretch and just missed for second, while clear for third. TAPCON a step slow away from the start, lacked early speed and trailed into the turn, saved ground into the bend then angled four to five wide for the stretch drive, was gaining late but could not reel in the leaders in deep stretch. WASTED WARRIOR broke alertly, vied for the early lead then pressed the pace from outside of WISE DECISION, attended to the decent pace two wide into the turn, chased between rivals past the quarter marker then caught a bit in tight to upper stretch, lost ground at the furlong pole, gave way late. SKY SIMON settled in the second flight to begin, lost ground into the turn, coaxed from the three to four path nearing the quarter, swung widest to upper stretch, lacked a response in the lane and tired. THE STEWARDS CONDUCTED AN INQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING IN UPPER STRETCH. THE STEWARDS RULED THERE WOULD BE NO CHANGE.
