Footnotes
AVALON GIRL was held up in behind runners heading into the first turn, moved in a bit and got through inside at the six- and one-half to take a narrow lead just past the three-quarter pole, forced the pace shadowed by an outside foe, edged clear of that one turning into upper stretch and was put to moderate hand-urging, received a bit more vigorous encouragement in mid-stretch and held sway. CONTESSA'S SONG moved to the fore from between runners to set the early tempo, was overtaken by an inside foe past the three-quarters, continued to press and spar with that one, was given moderate encouragement three furlongs out and more stout urging coming to the top of the stretch having lost ground, proved no match but was clearly second best. COURTNEY FAY settled at the rear outside well removed from the inside, came into upper stretch six deep, ran along for show without threatening the top pair. STHENIC stalked mostly three to four wide off the leading pair and failed to rally. GOSPEL TIZ GOT was prominent briefly in the early stages but soon dropped back inside, was not a factor.
