Footnotes
MISSING ROCKS tracked in second position early while under a stiff hold, responded when asked to go on leaving the three-furlong pole, dueled with a game ELIGIO from that point, then edged ahead in the final yards. STRAIGHTAWAY raced close up three-wide, appeared to flatten in mid-stretch, but found best stride late, surged late, and just missed. ELIGIO won the race into the first turn and was taken under mild restraint to temper the pace, was left alone to dictate early fractions, responded when asked to quicken leaving the half-mile pole, battled gamely to deep stretch, and gave way grudingly. MUCHO MACHO CAM went four to five wide into the first turn, continued wide down the backstretch, was still four-wide into the stretch but finished with good interest and was gaining ground on the leaders in deep stretch. EMPIRE RANCH settled in cover in the second flight, finished willingly, but could not find the needed extra kick in the final stages. CITIZEN BARRETT broke slow, steadied seven-eighths, was kept behind horses despite being a bit rank, moved out to the five-path going into the far turn, came under pressure at the quarter pole but was unable to threaten late. SIR PEEL raced with the pack until midway through the far turn, and had nothing to offer late. CAUSE IM THE KING was last into the clubhouse turn, chased while saving ground, but was unable to make an impact.
