LA FANTASTICA tucked into a good spot along the inside, always in range of the leaders, tipped out to the two path at the top of the stretch, and surged to the front by mid-stretch under strong handling. NINTH ISLAND showed good speed from the outside draw and made the lead into the first turn, because a bit rank as the rider tried to slow the pace, settled down when let loose, maintained a clear lead through the turn, turned for home with the lead, but was unable to last. MAYBE DOLCIE settled in mid-pack two-deep, got down to the rail late on the far turn, looked a threat passing the furlong marker, tried to make an inside pass into the chute gap, ran out of space, took up sharply and angled back towards the main course, and managed to hold third. SHE'SSKYSTHELIMIT was not asked for speed from the break and settled in the back half of the field along the rail, bided time inside to the stretch, then responded when asked to kick on at the top of the lane, but could not crack the top three. MOONLIGHT GAMBLER was held up along the inside near the back, launched a bid with three furlongs to go, navigated through horses through the far turn and finished well, but had left too much to do. TALKIN CADEE raced four-wide in the second flight, had some trouble changing leads in the stretch, and faltered. BLOOD ORANGE came away well and got a good forward position, raced between horses in the second flight, but lacked a late bid. KENTUCKY ANGEL unhurried and last early, came out four or five wide in the stretch and passed a few to improve. DOUDOUDOUWANADANCE stalked NINTH ISLAND to the outside for the first half-mile, struggled to go on with that one approaching the quarter pole, and flattened out in the stretch. MAGNOLIA AVENUE raced three-wide near the back and did not offer a late bid. WILD EXPRESS settled in the middle of the field but three to four wide, did not respond when asked to go approaching the three-furlong pole, and had little to offer in the stretch. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE STRETCH RUN. AFTER A REVIEW THE STEWARDS DETERMINED THAT #9 MAYBE DOLCIE CAUSED ITS OWN PROBLEM BY TAKING THE INSIDE PATH AND DID NOT AFFECT ANY OTHER RUNNER, SO NO CHANGE WAS WARRANTED.
