Footnotes
DONEGAL FREEDOM broke well, settled in the two path behind the dueling early leaders, moved to challenge for the lead approaching the quarter pole, got a head in front in upper stretch, then held safe from challengers to the inside and outside in the final stages. GASOLINE was unhurried from the break, went four-wide into the clubhouse turn, continued the path down the backstretch, launched a bid from the three-furlong pole, came four-wide into the stretch, had every chance to run down the leader but could not get by. HERN tracked the pacesetters to the inside of DONEGAL FREEDOM, became boxed in late on the far turn, found room late up the rail, closed in but was too late. MACHO GRANDE chased from well behind the pack to the half-mile pole, kept to the inside through the far turn, and finished with mild interest to improve. MALIBU RAIN was sent from the outside post to get forward position, dueled with BROCK ON BY to the far turn, got a head in front passing the quarter pole, but yielded when confronted by several challengers in upper stretch. BROCK ON BY made the lead into the first turn and was joined by MALIBU RAIN, dueled that foe to the half, came under a ride on the turn, remained in contention to mid-stretch, then weakened. THIRD STREET raced at the head of the trailing group and was unable to produce a late bid. CAPE TRAFALGAR lost the path and steadied after the start, settled near the back of the pack.
