Footnotes
DEACON JONES came away well and settled near the rear along the rail, advanced closer on the turn, angled four wide into the stretch, and finished with a furious rally to get up in the final jump. SIR TOM disputed the pace four wide early, put a head in front near the half-mile pole, then took sole command midway on the turn, opened up in the stretch, but got a bit short in the final yards and was tagged on the wire. RUSTY GADGET vied along the inside in the early speed duel, backed off the pace after the half-mile pole, then stayed on willingly to gain the minor award. NEW YORK NEW YORK was slow into stride, saved ground throughout and finished well to improve position. ETERNAL MISCHIEF gave an even effort three wide in midpack, lacked a late kick. SPUNOUTOFMYMIND vied three wide in the early stages, continued after SIR TOM beyond the half-mile pole, but could not sustain the bid and weakened late. SIR PEEL missed the break, toiled near the rear while racing two wide, angled six wide into the stretch, and failed to rally. HARDTOBLAME raced three wide while close to the pace early, struggled to keep up through the turn, dropped back under urging and was not a factor. RACE AROUND raced in midpack early, weakened on the turn and faded to the rear.
