CHRISTMAS SPIRIT vied outside for the lead, dueled with DUCK DUCK GOOSE on the far turn, gained a short lead, dug in gamely in the stretch run, edged clear past the furlong marker, then dug in determinedly to turn back a late bid from the runner up. ENDURING ANGEL steadied at the start, tracked close up on the inside, waited for room behind the leaders midway on the far turn, came three wide into the lane, rallied outside in midstretch, bid at the sixteenth marker and was outfinished. DUCK DUCK GOOSE vied inside for the lead, dueled on the far turn, dug in gamely on the rail to midstretch, then weakened. TALL COTTON pulled in the early stages, stalked outside, chased three wide on the far turn and tired. AWOL raced off the rail, off the pace and failed to respond.
