Footnotes
COAL BATTLE broke running, allowed the leaders to go early, patiently handled up the backstretch, accelerated strongly four to five wide through the second turn while briefly being bothered by SPEED KING, reached the leader in upper stretch and wore that rival down to draw clear under firm left handed pressure. MADAKET ROAD broke on top, set the pace into and through the first turn, showed the way by daylight up the backstretch, larger lead into the stretch, could not contain the winner in yielding late, fully extended to hold the place. SANDMAN unhurried in the early going, began to advance three wide far turn then moved around some traffic to be five wide into the lane, closed willingly to be getting to the runner up late. PUBLISHER broke back, remained void of speed for six furlongs, crept closer in some traffic turning for home in the three path, squeezed a furlong out, closed mildly to pick up a couple of positions late while not a serious threat. TIZTASTIC four wide into the first turn, moved in a bit to save some ground, two path through the second bend when improving a bit, moved to the rail when straightened for home, finished up evenly. ADMIRAL DENNIS off a step slow, trailed early, continued back far turn, steered out widest for the drive and finished with some interest down the middle of the strip to better his position. HYPNUS in mid pack while along the inside, in some traffic late in the final turn, waited while continued to be covered up with a furlong to run, finished up evenly when clear. BRERETON'S BAYTOWN broke back, crossed toward the inside, lacked speed, picked off some tiring rivals while never a serious threat. DREAMINBLUE in the main body while off the inside, four to five wide late in the final turn, outside of traffic with a furlong to run, lacked a closing kick. SPEED KING settled off the pace while four wide first turn, continued off the inside, four wide again in the second bend, brushed a furlong outside of traffic, came up empty late. HOT GUNNER was never a factor while racing outside. INNOVATOR chased the runner up for six furlongs just outside that one, caved in entering the stretch. SMOKEN WICKED forwardly placed while three wide early, also gave way badly down the lane.
