Footnotes
TARTARIAN forwardly placed from the start, ranged up to challenge three wide turning into the stretch, gained the advantage, briefly clear past the furlong marker then held the stubborn pacesettler safe late under firm handling while outside that one. FAIR HOPE pressed the issue early from the outside, gained command early in the turn, relinquished the advantage to the winner into the lane, trying to get back to that rival late while narrowly preserving the place. JOEWILLY broke slowly, saved some ground through the turn, two path into the lane, shifted out a bit in midstretch, finished willingly to miss the second spot. PRINCE BEN in mid pack early, raced three wide through the turn, improved position through the lane. MIDSHAKIN settled off the pace while well out in the strip, four wide through the turn, went evenly through the stretch. DAWSON JAMES in tight at the start to be off a step slow, raced back, angled five wide into the lane, also bettered his position through the lane. GIMME A CHANCE came out at the start to put DAWSON JAMES in tight, was straightened raced in the main group while inside entering the turn, steered three wide late in the bend, came up empty for the stretch drive. ARKANSAS DAVE off a step slow, lagged well back for a half, swung out six wide exiting the turn, made little impact down the middle of the strip. LEDBETTER flashed speed along the inside for a half, gave way. ONYX OUTLAW tired while racing off the inside.
