Footnotes
VERITAS AEQUITAS vied five deep into the first turn then stalked four wide around the bend, crept closer on the backstretch between rivals, waited behind the leaders off the rail on the far turn, bid between at the eighth pole, dueled inside HAPPY DOES in deep stretch and was all out to edge that rival in the closing moments. HAPPY DOES vied two wide into the first turn, inched clear around the bend, took pressure entering the far turn, dueled from inside around the bend, moved out in upper stretch, resisted into the final sixteenth, dueled with the winner late and yielded grudgingly. CROWN MAGIC unhurried three then two wide early, traveled three deep leaving the backstretch, chased two wide turning for home, finished well through the lane and gained third. ENOS SLAUGHTER vied from inside then stalked around the first turn, bid inside the top pair on the far turn but got put in tight at the quarter pole, kept on willingly from the fence down the lane but lacked the needed late punch. WINE AND WHISKY stalked from inside, chased between early on the backstretch, bid from outside into the far turn, dueled two to three wide around the bend, fought to midstretch and weakened in the last sixteenth. QUALITY CAT showed early speed four then three wide, stalked three deep up the backstretch, asked three then four wide on the far turn but failed to find more down the lane. J. B. BOOKS tossed his head at the start to break a bit slow, trailed on the inside, angled out at the five-sixteenths pole, spun three wide into the lane, moved out and was never a factor. RICH GOLD raced up close three deep then steadied into the first turn, raced off the pace early on the backstretch then drew closer but lacked room approaching the seven-sixteenths pole, chased along the rail and became a bit rank at the quarter pole and could not threaten in the lane.
